I work on an hourly rate (R300.00 per hour), bundled into packages initially, with hourly maintenance/correctional charges after the initial package.
For example:
Basic website work bundle
20 hours @ R300 per hour is broken down into the following:

- 10 hours concept and planning stage (billable regardless of final sign-off)
- 10 hours implementation for completion.
Thereafter, any changes to the initial concept and additional work on the site are billed per hour.
Basic marketing materials / print design bundle
20 hours @ R300 per hour is broken down as follows:

- 10 hours concept and planning stage (billable regardless of final sign-off)
- 10 hours for completion of print-ready materials to be shipped to the printers according to their specifications.
Thereafter, any changes to the initial concept are billed per hour.
As per these examples, the packages I offer are structured along the terms of a 50% non-refundable deposit for time taken on concept phases.
More advanced job bundles can be tailor made. I will also accept maintenance contract packages of a certain number of hours per month (for website / e-media design work, for example) in line with my hourly charges.
On payment of the package deposit, regardless of customers final decision to complete the project, all ownership of and rights to the materials default to the customer. I will retain backups of the materials for 6 months unless asked by the customer to retain for future projects or to dispose of immediately. Optical media backups are available on request at a charge of R50 per disc, including delivery.
